It is our goal to provide the most up-to-date information on animal husbandry and pet care, and to offer 5 star service that exceeds expectations. We have several departments including small pets, bird & reptile, aquarium and online and we pride ourselves on the specialised knowledge our passionate team can offer in these areas. Sometimes, we have a few gaps that we need to fill with the right person.
Sales Assistant – Casual/Permanent (Experienced Sales Focus)
Departments: Bird Reptile/ Small Animals/ Cashier/ Aquarium
We’re seeking an experienced and results-driven Sales Assistant to join our team. This role is ideal for a confident retail professional who excels at driving sales, building customer relationships, and delivering outstanding in-store experiences. Weekend availability is essential.
About You
We’re looking for a high-performing sales professional who:
- Has proven retail sales experience with a strong track record of achieving or exceeding targets
- Is confident in upselling, cross-selling, and maximising transaction value
- Excels at building rapport quickly and delivering exceptional customer service
- Has strong communication and influencing skills
- Is proactive, self-motivated, and thrives in a fast-paced retail environment
- Takes ownership of sales performance and contributes to team success
- Maintains a polished, professional approach with a “results-first” mindset
- Is available to work weekends and public holidays
- Animal knowledge or experience is advantageous, but not essential
The Role
At Pet City, we pride ourselves on combining expert advice with a strong sales culture. In this role, you will:
- Drive sales by actively engaging customers and recommending tailored solutions
- Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell across our product range
- Consistently work towards and exceed individual and team sales targets
- Deliver a premium customer experience that encourages repeat business and loyalty
- Maintain high visual merchandising standards and ensure stock availability
- Support the upkeep of in-store animal enclosures (training provided if required)
This is a casual position with the potential to transition into a permanent role for high performers.
