We use this litter with an anti-tracking mat outside of the litter box and it seems to keep the mess to a minimum. The effectiveness of the litter for our two boys who share a litter tray outweighs the occasional tracking that the mat doesn't catch. Smell prevention is best in the Lavender litter and I wouldn't suggest the bicarb soda/ black label brand of this clumping litter as it was more expensive and didn't work as well. The lavender is not overpowering at all and dust is minimal. Overall very happy with the litter and have been using it for almost a year.
