Currently, the pet food industry in Australia is self-regulated. AAFCO has provided minimum nutritional requirements. This means the Australian Standards for the manufacturing and marketing of pet food are voluntary.

We recommend taking your pets age, breed and lifestyle into consideration when choosing a diet. There is no right or wrong answer to this question, however we recommend finding the best food that fits within your budget and works for you and your pet.

However, not all foods are created equal and it’s recommended that you discuss the different food options with your vet or chat to a Pet City staff member to help pick the right food for your dog. Pet City will always recommend feeding a premium complete and balanced diet.

In most cases, puppies will find their new home from around the age of 10 weeks. At this age, they require constant interaction, food and clean water. Puppies should be offered several small meals a day, approximately 4. Adult dogs should be fed twice a day, smaller meals often is better than one large meal a day.

The science of learning and dog behaviour has proven that positive reinforcement training is the way to go. So yes, stock up on treats when you adopt a puppy as you’ll be using lots of them. Treats should make up no more than 5% of their diet, however if you choose to feed meat-based treats, this offers more room and affordability to feed your dog a lot more.Any treat should always be given in moderation.
